from www.justnodoubt.net It's OK if you're not familiar with Fishbone. The name has never boasted the star power of the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Sublime. It's hard to fathom why. Whatever the reasons for Fishbone's lack of mainstream superstardom, bassist Norwood Fisher doesn't sweat it. "You know, we would have loved if we had been a breakout band, but the bottom line is that I'm in a band where, for the most part, I got to make exactly the music I wanted to make," said Fisher, one of only two original remaining members of the group. [...] Before you know it, Fishbone had become a force with their mix of punk, metal, funk, ska, and reggae rhythms. And, yes, that description sounds like a broken record when you think of all the bands out there now that fit that description, from No Doubt to 311 to Slightly Stoopid. Just look at 2000's "The Psychotic Friends Nuttwerx," which features contributions from Gwen Stefani, George Clinton, Flea, John Frusciante, Rick James, H.R. and more. [...] In the end, Fishbone's lack of bombastic commercial success is irrelevant; just ask anyone in the clown car full of bands that have followed in their footsteps. "Like I said, if I ain't got the validation in my bank account," Fisher said, "if Gwen Stefani is gonna drop the Fishbone name in an interview or on an award show, or any band that will give us props, it's nice to be validated."

That was nice of that Fishbone member to mention gwen;it's true, whenever Gwen has been asked in interviews who her fashion and musical influences have been, she's almost always cited Angelo Moore of Fishbone. Tony, too, has said, how Fishbone's bass player has been an influence on him.
